Creating a Simplified and User-Focused Marketplace for ikman.lk

The Ikman.lk redesign project focused on addressing key user pain points and optimizing the online buying and selling experience. Through in-depth research and usability testing, I reimagined the platform’s interface, creating a streamlined design with intuitive navigation and clean layouts. By prioritizing ease of use and accessibility, the redesigned platform makes browsing, posting, and managing listings simpler and more efficient for all users.

Introduction

Ikman.lk is one of the leading online marketplaces in Sri Lanka, connecting buyers and sellers for a wide range of products and services. Despite its popularity, the platform faced challenges in usability and user retention. My goal was to redesign the user experience to make it more intuitive, accessible, and enjoyable for users while aligning with business objectives.

Goal

The primary goal was to redesign the platform to enhance navigation, simplify the listing process for sellers, and improve overall user satisfaction across all devices, especially mobile.

The Challenge

Redesigning the user experience while preserving the existing components that users were already familiar with.

Research Process

User Research

As this is a re-design of an already existing app the key source of user research was from the reviews obtained through Appstore. Competitor analysis with simillar apps was also done as a part of the research to locate usage patterns and opportunities for improvement

Problem Statement

The current user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design of the application are causing frustration and hindering efficient navigation for users. Several issues have been identified, including difficulties in navigating through the application's features, improper filtering functionality, and font-related problems.

Possible Solutions

01. Improve the user interface of the application by introducing first-time unique features

02. Make the important menus and navigations available at first glance

03. Remove unnecessary cluttering of optional filters and menus

04. Centralize important options with a menu bar that’s easy to access
